Festivals in Akita, inheriting our tradition in own climate. Kanto Festival,
regarded as one of the three major festivals in Tohoku area, and exciting
and heroic Port Festival in Tsuchizaki.
Kanto Festival Akita's most important summer festival, held from August 4th to 7th. Forty-six
lanterns hoisted on the bamboo poles are said to symbolize golden ears
of rice and to pray for good harvest. The length of Kanto poles is 12 meters
and it weights 50 kilograms. This skillful performance thrills the audience.
Port Festival A festival to protect the Port of Tsuchizaki held at the Shinmei Shrine
on July 20 and 21. It's a soul-starring event featuring decorated floats.
