Seal registration

In Japan it is common to use a seal named "In-kan" in Japanese (on which one's family or first name is carved) rather than signature.
There are two kinds of seals; one is a seal that is officially registered in the city hall and called "Jitsu-in," the other is a private seal called "Mitome-in."
By using your registered seal with its certificate, your act is legally confirmed, so consequently a registered seal is used for formal contracts or legal procedures.
When your seal is registered, a seal impression card will be issued.

Required items
  1. Seal that you wish to register.
  2. Alien registration card
Place for procedure City Hall, Tsuchizaki branch office, or Western civic center
Fee
  1. Registration 300 Yen
  2. Certificate 300 Yen
Remarks The letters used for your registered seal should be the ones used in your country, or Japanese letters, such as Hiragana, Katakana, or Kanji that show the pronunciation of your name.
It is impossible to register seals showing only one's initials.
