NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE

CONTENTS In Japan all people are required to be members of one of the Japanese public health insurance systems, such as national health insurance.
Foreign people who stay in Japan more than one year are part of the national health insurance system.
If you become a member of the system, your insurance card will be issued and you will bear only 30 % of the expenses when you get medical care at hospitals all over Japan.
As a member, expense supports for large amount of medical care, midwife, child care, and pregnant women are available. Funeral expense will be provided when a member dies.
DOCUMENTS AND OTHER MATERIALS REQUIRED Alien registration card
PLACE FOR PROCEDURE City Hall, or its branch offices in Tsuchizaki and Araya
FEE The members are obliged to pay the insurance tax (fee).
REMARKS Your insurance tax (fee) will be calculated according to your family size, family income in the previous year, and the duration as a member.
When you change your resident matters on your alien registration, you must report it and register it on your insurance registration.
OTHER NOTICE Members over 55 years old can be provided a subsidy for the treatment of acupuncture, moxibustion, and massage. (40 times a year. 800 Yen per treatment.)
Members over 35 and under 70 years old can be provided a subsidy for a thorough physical examination. (About 70 % of the expense will be provided.)

NATIONAL PENSION

CONTENTS This pension system will guarantee you an income in your old age or if anything should happen.
All residents from the age of 20 to 59 in Japan are obliged to be members of one of the public pension systems.
The tax (fee) for the national pension per month is 12,800 Yen.
DOCUMENTS AND OTHER MATERIALS REQUIRED If you are a type 1 member, your alien registration card is needed. If you are a type 3, your health insurance card and dependent's mutual pension handbook are also needed.
PLACE FOR PROCEDURE City Hall, or its branch offices in Tsuchizaki and Araya
FEE 12,800 Yen/month
REMARKS Members of the national pension system can be divided into following three types:
  1. Type 1 Membership: Self-employed, their spouses, and ones who are not members of other pension systems.
  2. Type 2 Membership: Members of the employee's pension system or mutual pension system.
  3. Type 3 Membership: Dependents of type 2 members.
OTHER NOTICE When you become a member of the employee's pension system or mutual pension system, you must report it to the municipal offices written above with the following;
  1. National Pension Handbook
  2. Mutual Pension Handbook
  3. Health Insurance Card
  4. Seal
