Lots of Fun in museum of fun.

To those who want to know more about Akita, there are museums of history and folklore, libraries and archives. You will be an expert in Akita for sure after your visit.

Akarenga (red-brick) house built in 1900's
The Akarenga (red-brick) house was built as the headquarters of the former Akita Bank in the late Meiji period. It is a renaissance building with baroque style interior. The whole building has been preserved and is open to the public.

Neburinagashi Kan
(Kanto Festival center)

At the Neburinagashi Kan (Kanto Festival center) you can see floats for the Kanto Festival, Bonden Festival and Tuchizaki Port Festival. At the theater insede a film shows of festivals are shown as well as the performance of Akita Manzai (double act) which is one of the intangible cultural assets. If you wish to try balancing 'Kanto' (a long bamboo pole with many lighted lanterns), you can try it any time of the year.
*There is performance of Kanto every weekend between April 18 and October 25.

Meitokukan (Akita central Library)
The modern Library is named after the school of Satake clan. There is a special room of Tatsuzo Ishikawa, the novelist who received the Akutagawa Prize.

The Prefectural Museum
You can obtain information about all of the genres of Akita, such as its history, folk customs, industries and culture.
*30 minutes from Akita Station by car In Koizumigata Park.

It provides information on sightseeing and events in Akita Prefecture.

Akita Terrsa
The Sports Plaza has a gym and tennis courts which you can use anytime. A golfcourse is also located nearby.
